Teaching Schools were introduced as a new flagship scheme in 2011 by the current Conservative government with a brief to drive up school standards through the development of the teaching and wider school workforce.

As an outstanding school with a strong record of teacher training and working with other schools, Northampton School for Boys applied for and was designated as a Teaching School in April 2012. The Northampton Town and County Teaching School Alliance (NTCTSA) was formed to take this forward.

We have been re-designated in 2015 for a further 3 years due to the success and impact that we have had.

Teaching School Alliances will:
  • take responsibility for delivering aspects of initial teacher training
  • ensure that the professional development needs of the educational workforce are met;
  • identify, nurture and shape the middle and senior leaders of the future;
  • help schools develop themselves from within and encourage schools to support each other, through school to school support.

This self-improving system continues to evolve at pace. It works best when successes are shared and ways are found to address development needs through the advice and support of peers and system leaders who know how to deliver impact in the context of a successful school.
